LinkedIn for coaches: connect with the people who would hire you
As a coach, you have two audiences on LinkedIn: individuals who hire you directly (executives and managers taking a career step) and companies that pay for coaching for their teams. Pick one, invite it every week and post about the specific situations they live through, not generic motivation.
Who to invite on LinkedIn: a guide for coaches
The narrower your niche, the easier it is to choose who to invite.
| If you work in… | Invite… | At… |
|---|---|---|
| Executive coaching | Newly promoted directors, C-level | Mid-sized and large companies |
| Career coaching | Middle managers with 5 to 15 years of experience | Tech, consulting, banking |
| Coaching for companies | HR, talent and L&D directors | Companies with 200+ employees |
| Specific niches | Women executives, founders, physicians | Your niche’s industry |
How to set up your audience in Reachvite
Values for each tab of the extension:
- Industry: The industry whose clients’ problems you know well.
- Job title: The title of the person going through the change (or HR if you sell to companies).
- Companies: Companies that just grew, reorganised or promoted new leaders.
- Where?: Your city for in-person sessions; your country and language if online.
Reachvite always adds its own filters: real people with 500+ connections, and never 1st-degree connections or pending invitations.
How many invitations a week?
One or two batches of 20 a week.
In coaching, trust matters more than volume. Twenty to 40 invitations a week to a clear niche, backed by useful content, work better than many to a broad audience. LinkedIn doesn’t publish a fixed number: we explain it in the weekly invitation limit.
Example invitation notes
Notes are optional and capped at 300 characters.
- “Hi Beth, I work with women in their first year on an executive team and write about it. Glad to connect.”
- “Hi Dan, I share ideas for engineers moving into team lead roles. I’d like to have you in my network.”
- “Hi Martha, I work with HR teams on leadership programmes. Happy to stay in touch.”
What to post so people accept (and remember you)
- Real (anonymous) situations and the question that unlocked them.
- Simple tools the reader can use today.
- Your method explained, including what you don’t do.
Common mistakes
- Posting generic motivational quotes.
- Inviting other coaches instead of clients.
- Offering a discovery call in the note.
Frequently asked questions
Does LinkedIn work for life coaching?
It works mainly for career and executive coaching, which is what people look for on LinkedIn.
Should I sell to companies or individuals?
Pick one to start. Companies pay more but buy more slowly.
Can I start with people like me?
Yes. With “People like me”, Reachvite fills in job title, location and language from your profile.
