LinkedIn for ecommerce: the B2B side of your online store
An ecommerce brand doesn’t sell to consumers on LinkedIn, but it does close the deals that grow the business most: retail placement, international distributors, corporate gifting and brand partnerships. Invite retail buyers and distributors in your category, and tell your brand’s story with numbers.
Who to invite on LinkedIn: a guide for ecommerce brands
Invite the people who buy wholesale or can open a new channel for you.
| If you work in… | Invite… | At… |
|---|---|---|
| Retail | Buyers, category managers | Department stores, chains, specialty retail |
| International distribution | Import and purchasing directors | Distributors in your category abroad |
| Corporate gifting | HR, marketing and event leads | Companies with 100+ employees |
| Partnerships | Founders of complementary brands | Ecommerce and consumer goods |
How to set up your audience in Reachvite
Values for each tab of the extension:
- Industry: Retail, wholesale or consumer goods, depending on the channel.
- Job title: Buyer, category manager, purchasing director, founder.
- Companies: The chains and distributors you want to be in.
- Where?: Your country first, then the markets you want to export to.
Not sure where to start? People like me fills in job title, location and language from your profile.
How many invitations a week?
One or two batches of 20 to 30 a week.
Buyers and distributors are a limited audience per category. Twenty to 60 invitations a week, prioritising the chains you care about, are enough. This is our guidance, not a LinkedIn figure; Reachvite stops at the first warning.
Example invitation notes
Without Premium you can only add a note to 5 invitations a month, so save it for the people who matter most.
- “Hi Carla, we’re a solid cosmetics brand from Portland with 40,000 online customers. I’d like to have you in my network.”
- “Hi Thomas, we export premium olive oil and are looking for distributors in Germany. Glad to connect.”
- “Hi Ellen, we make corporate gift boxes with local producers. Happy to connect.”
What to post so people accept (and remember you)
- Brand numbers: growth, repeat purchase, reviews.
- How you make your product and what sets you apart in the category.
- Lessons from selling online that matter to retail.
Common mistakes
- Treating LinkedIn like Instagram, with product posts.
- Inviting end consumers.
- Approaching buyers without sales data.
