LinkedIn for founders: first customers, investors and team
For a founder, LinkedIn is a sales, fundraising and hiring channel at once. The trick is not to mix them: decide what you need this quarter (customers, investors or talent), invite that audience consistently and share in public how your company is progressing.
Who to invite on LinkedIn: a guide for founders
Pick one goal per quarter and invite only that audience.
| If you work in… | Invite… | At… |
|---|---|---|
| First customers | The roles that feel the problem you solve | Companies matching your ideal customer |
| Fundraising | VC partners and associates, angel investors | Venture capital and investment |
| First hires | Engineers, sellers and key roles | Larger startups in your city |
| Ecosystem | Accelerator and community leads | Accelerators, incubators, associations |
How to set up your audience in Reachvite
Values for each tab of the extension:
- Industry: For customers, your ideal customer’s industry; for fundraising, “Venture Capital and Private Equity Principals”.
- Job title: For customers, the user’s title; for investors, partner or associate.
- Companies: Funds that invest at your stage and sector, or your first prospective accounts.
- Where?: Your city and country; for fundraising, also the hubs those funds invest in.
Not sure where to start? People like me fills in job title, location and language from your profile.
How many invitations a week?
Two batches of 20 a week, with a fixed goal.
With little time, consistency is what counts: 40 invitations a week to this quarter’s audience and ten minutes a day replying to people who accept. This is our guidance, not a LinkedIn figure; Reachvite stops at the first warning.
Example invitation notes
Without Premium you can only add a note to 5 invitations a month, so save it for the people who matter most.
- “Hi Irene, I’m building a tool for veterinary clinics and sharing the journey here. I’d love your take some day.”
- “Hi Alvin, I saw you invest in vertical software at seed. I founded Medik a year ago; glad to connect.”
- “Hi Laura, we’re building our engineering team in Austin and I share how we work. I’d like to have you in my network.”
What to post so people accept (and remember you)
- What you learn while building, with numbers when you can.
- Customer conversations: what they said and what you changed.
- Company milestones told honestly, failures included.
Common mistakes
- Inviting everyone at once: customers, investors and candidates.
- Leaving all posting to the company page.
- Asking investors for a meeting in the note.
Frequently asked questions
Personal profile or company page?
Early on, the founder’s profile gets far more reach and connections than the page.
Can I use it to fundraise?
Yes, to get the right investors to know you. Pitching the round is a separate conversation.
How much does it cost?
USD 19 a month or USD 190 a year, no commitment.
