LinkedIn for insurance agents: commercial lines through a local network
An insurance agent or broker gets the most from LinkedIn in commercial lines: liability, fleet, group health, cyber. Invite owners and finance leads at small businesses in your area, explain real claims in plain terms and avoid selling policies in messages.
Who to invite on LinkedIn: a guide for insurance agents
Invite whoever decides the company’s insurance: owners and finance.
| If you work in… | Invite… | At… |
|---|---|---|
| Liability and property | Owners, general managers | Manufacturing, construction, hospitality |
| Group health and benefits | HR and finance directors | Companies with 20 to 500 employees |
| Fleet | Operations and logistics directors | Transport and distribution |
| Cyber | CTOs, IT managers | Ecommerce, law firms, clinics |
How to set up your audience in Reachvite
Values for each tab of the extension:
- Industry: Industries whose risks you know well (construction, transport, hospitality).
- Job title: Owner, CFO, HR director, general manager.
- Companies: Local businesses and growing companies that are hiring or adding vehicles.
- Where?: Your state or region; small businesses still buy from someone nearby.
Not sure where to start? People like me fills in job title, location and language from your profile.
How many invitations a week?
One or two batches of 20 a week.
Policies renew yearly: you need steady presence more than volume. Twenty to 40 invitations a week keep your local network current. This is our guidance, not a LinkedIn figure; Reachvite stops at the first warning.
Example invitation notes
Without Premium you can only add a note to 5 invitations a month, so save it for the people who matter most.
- “Hi Phil, I advise contractors in Phoenix on liability cover and explain real claims briefly. Glad to connect.”
- “Hi Brenda, I work on group health plans for small teams in Ohio. I’d like to have you in my network.”
- “Hi Ray, I share cases of cyberattacks on small businesses and how they’re covered. Happy to connect.”
What to post so people accept (and remember you)
- Anonymised real claims: what happened and what the policy covered.
- Exclusions almost nobody reads, explained.
- Rule changes that make cover mandatory.
Common mistakes
- Sending quotes nobody asked for.
- Posting only the carrier’s products.
- Inviting consumers when you sell commercial lines.
Your profession’s rules
Insurance marketing is regulated by your state insurance department or national regulator, and carriers often have their own social media policy. Check before posting.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for personal lines?
Less so; LinkedIn is more effective for commercial and self-employed cover.
Can I post policy prices?
Better not without checking your carrier’s and regulator’s rules.
Does Reachvite send sales messages?
No. Connection invitations only; you decide what to write afterwards.
